// Ideas for New Techniques Film (Final Project)//

I was thinking for my film I would do a stop motion just like Lauren suggested. The story is about two seniors in high school who choose different paths. The guy chooses to focus on school like applying for four year colleges and also two year colleges as a back plan. While the girl decides to focus her attention on her reputation, her friends, and boys and does not apply to colleges until the last minute. The guy already knows what colleges he wants to go to so he works really hard to keep his grades so the college of his choice will accept him. He does it by turning in his homework, going every class, and attending school. The girl has a few colleges in mind but it not sure which one to choose and her choices are limited because her grades have been going up and down because she has so many absents from not being at school or not going to a class because something came up. I was thinking shoot this next Tuesday when I get back from senior trip and I thinking having Leon or Ali-kan as the guy and for the girl I was thinking Jordan, Marabet, and or Ashia.

// The Big Wedding//

This a 2013 comedy film screenplay and directed by Justin Zackham and based on the French movie Mon frère se marie written by Jean-Stephane Bron. The movie is about how Alejandro who is adopted by Don & Ellie Griffin is getting married to a woman named Missy O’Connor. Alejandro’s biological Catholic mother and sister are coming to the wedding an he ha not told his mother that his parents are divorced and is afraid to tell the truth because she thinks that divorced if is a big sin. So Ellie &Don Griffin pretend to be married kicking out his recent girlfriend of seven years Bebe McBride. That day when Alejandro’s mother and sister came the sister told Jared Griffin that she wanted to make love to him. The night of the wedding Don & Ellie decided to have a sex since they were sleeping in the same bed and there was no other way. The morning everyone found out that Ellie & Don had sex and Bebe was upset but then realized she did the same thing to Ellie so she forgave them. Then we found out that Ellie had sex with  Barry which is Missy O’Connor dad a longtime ago and Alejandro’s sister and Jared had sex. Lyla Griffin is pregnant with her husbands child but does not know if he is going to help her raise the child because they have been fighting the whole weekend and the doctor said it was impossible for her to have a baby. In the end Alejandro and Missy eloped at lake and Don & Bebe got married as well.

// Mean Girls 2//

This is a American teen comedy television film written by Allison Schroeder, directed by Melanie Mayron, and cinematography by Levie Isaacks. The movie was about a high school senior name Joanna Mitchell who goes to North Shore High School and on the first day the plastics which Mandi Weatherly is the queen bee take interest into Joanna and invites her to have smoothies with them. She also meets Abby” Hanover who is like Mandie’s enemy and finds her more interesting and finds more stuff in common with her than Mandi. When Joanna and Abby go and get lunch ad Mandi sees them together se gets really angry and jealous that she choose Abby over her. Joanna starts to develop a crush on Mandi’s step-brother Tyler Adams but does not know they it Is her step-brother. A conflict grew between the plastics, Abby, and Joanna and all because Joanna rather hang out with Abby than with her. Joanna, Abby, and a few other girls were tried off the plastics ruining everyone life and they created a clique called the anti-plastics. This made Mandi angry because they were becoming as popular as the plastics. Abby’s dad paid her to be her friend but when se tried to give to give it back Mandi saw her and spread it around the whole school. The anti-plastics and Tyler forgave her and worked with Elliott who is a computer hacker to prove Joanna’s innocence. After the anti-plastics beat the plastics and few other helpers in flag football Elliot found a video of Mandi and her boyfriend putting the money in Joanna she and making out after. In the end Abby and Elliot won King and Queen because Joanna dropped out of the court and her and Tyler started dating.

// Mean Girls//

This is a American teen comedy film written by Tina Fey, directed by Mark Waters, cinematography by Daryn Okada, and based on the book Queen Bees and Wannabees by Rosalind Wiseman. The movie is about how this girl named Cady who has been homeschooled and lived in Africa for 12 years goes to her firs public high school and is unprepared what can happen. The first day of school Damien and Janis warn about the about where not to sit in their first class. By the second day of school Damien and Janis were Cady first and only friends at the moment and they warn her about the school’s cliques at the cafeteria and to avoid ” The Plastics” who are the most popular girls in high school. One day Regina George and the other girls invited Cady to sit with them at lunch and to hang out with them for the rest of the week because they thought she was very pretty. Cady really liked hanging out with the plastics and did not get why Janis hated her. Until Gretchen Wieners told Regina that she liked Aaron Samuels (Regina’s ex-boyfriend) and Regina said that she was fine with it and would talk to him for her. At the Halloween party Regina was talking to him and Cady saw the and was thinking that she was so cool and nice until she saw them her kiss him. That night Janis, Damien, and Cady planned on ruining Regina’s life. Cady was starting to get to caught up in the act of being plastic where she forgot about Janis art show an got blamed for the burned book and pushing Regina in front of the bus. So her social life was crumbling down and plus she gets grounded for failing her math test because she wanted to get Aaron’s attention. Also as a punishment of saying that her math teacher sold drugs and putting it in the book she joined the Mathletes instead of going to prom. In the end although she was grounded the guys encouraged her to go to the prom now that she is already out the house. She wins prom Queen and breaks the crown and shares with the prom court and everyone else who looked gorgeous . Also she got her friends Janis and Damien back and start dating Aaron Samuels.

// Mulan//

This a 1998 American animated musical drama film directed by Tony Bancroft, story by Robert D. San  Souci, and based off the Chinese legend Hua Mulan. The movie is about a girl named Fa Mulan who is the only daughter of Fa Zhou who goes off and escapes off to the army because since china was being attack by the Han every family is given a conscription notice which means every male must enter the Chinese army; since her father was the only male it was duty. Mulan did not want her father fighting in the war since he was physically capable without his cane so she disguised herself as a male and played Fa Zhou son Ping. Her father did not realize something until he heard the gates and by then it was to late. In the army Mulan trained and learned all the tactics there was to be in the army. She was building a great friendship with men named Yao, Ling and Chien-Po and even her General Li Shang who she was starting to develop a crush on him. Everything was going good until she got caught when she got shot and they found out that ping was a girl and left her there while they were on their way back. When they get to Imperial city Mulan tries to warn Shang that Shan Yu was there and was planning to kidnap the emperor. No one believes her until Shan YU shows his face and kidnaps the emperor and that’s when Mulan, General Shang, Yao, Ling and Chien-Po all work together to get the emperor back and destroy Shan Yu. In the end the destroy Shan Yu and Mulan ad General Shang expresses their feelings for each other and everyone gets a medal for saving China.

// Grave Encounters//

This is a Canadian-American supernatural horror film written and directed by The Vicious Brothers and cinematography by Tony Mirza. The movie is about the show Grave encounters is going and investigating the Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital where there has been a report of it being haunted with crazy ghost. They get a tour around the hospital and learn the history of the hospital and about a physician named Arthur Fredkin who would perform crazy experiments and lobotomies on patients just before they were killed by other patients in the hospital. The crew from the show the Grave encounters decided to lock themselves in the building until the next morning. The whole night the crew are trying to contact the patients and doctor but instead are being tortured by them. The next morning the crew is worried that the guy is late picking them up and unlocking the chains. The take matters into their own hands and breakdown the door only to find out that it was only another hallway. The walk around and find several other exit signs that provide false information and they go back and find there food with maggots. One of the crew members are lost his name is Matt. The crew finds a roof sign only to find out that it was a blank wall. They hear a scream thinking its Matt but it was girl demonic girl and they run away. Now another crew member is lost and is killed by a unseen patient or doctor. Later they take a little nap and wake up to find hospital bands on their wrist. The crew finds Matt in a hospital gown saying that he needs to be treated because he has a sickness. Then T.C (one of the camera men) get grab into the bat tub, Matt kills himself, and Sasha get taken away by fog or smoke. Lance is the only one left and finds the room where Arthur Fredkin did his experiments and it showed that he did dark magic as well. It ends with Lance getting drag onto the operating table and when they are done and he turns to he camera and says that he is “better” now.

// Film Review: Lion King//

This film is a American Musical Drama and was based on William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The movie takes place in Africa at Pride Rock where King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi celebrate the birth of Simba with the while kingdom except Scar who did not show up because he is jealous that his nephew took his place in being next in line to be king. Years later Mufasa took his son and showed him he the pride land and told him”everything the sun touches will be his except (the dark shadow) which is the elephant graveyard; where the hyenas and Scar lives. In a plan to kill Simba Scar tells him not to go to the elephant graveyard because only the bravest lions go there knowing he is going to go to prove that he is brave. Mufasa save him and his best friend Nala from getting eaten by the hyenas and on they’re way back Scar and the hyenas plan to king Mufasa and Simba. The next day the plan was in motion and the hyenas stampede a large herd of wildebeests to where Simba was waiting for his dad. In the end Mufasa ends up saving his son but when he was tying to climb back up Scar threw him into the stampede and killed him and blamed it all on Simba. Knowing Simba is feeling guilty about “killing his dad” Scar gives him advice to run away and that’s what he does; but Scar also told the hyenas to kill him. Simba escaped feelings horrible about himself and finds a merrkat and a warthog named Pumbaa and Timon who teach their motto “hakuna Matata”. Now that Simba is an adult a lioness tries to eat Timon and Pumbaa which turns out to be his best friend Nala. Rafiki finds Simba and reminds him that his father will always be in his heart and makes him realize that he is the king. Simba goes back to the pride lands to challenge his uncle for his wrong doings of being the king. Scar reminds Simba that he is the reason why Mufasa is dead. In a battle Simba is hanging off the cliff where Scar tells him that he killed his father. Simba gets angry jumps up ad tells Scar to run away far from pride lands but Scar does not listen throws spark fire in his eyes. Then he is thrown towards the end of the cliff surrounded by hyenas where he thinks he is safe but they all eat him in return because he sad they were the enemies. In the end pride land is back to its circle of life celebrating Simba and Nala’s child with the kingdom the same way Mufasa and Sarabi did Simba but with Timon and Pumbaa a their side.

// Documentary Studies: Marley//

The topic was about how Robert “Bob” Marley was going back to Jamaica to for the peace concert. The kind of b-roll that was used was pictures of the newspapers announcement of his return back to Jamaica for the concert. Photos of the concert and videos of the concert like Bob Marley dancing with two men on stage. There is also video of people climbing on the stage and the audience cheering him and the band on. The interview settings where his wife/singer is sitting it looks like patio but looks like outside in a brown straw chair and there is another place where this guy is it looks like a bar. The audio was interviews talking over the b-roll videos and pictures. No there were no multiple angles on the interview. What worked well is that there were multiple people telling Bob Marley’s story it was not just one-sided it felt like we were rediscovering his music. Also it was like the video compared his early work with his later work in chronological order. I would change just the part where they were playing the live performance and put the song over the video but not the entire time.

This documentary says that music has a lot of power to transcend and spend cultures and politics around the world. Art plays a big role in to politics like how Thomas Nast the cartoonist created both the symbols of the two political parties or when Richard Nixon and Taft had the election on television Nixon won part of the reason is because he looked more appealing while Taft looked sick and on the edge of dying.

The challenges the filmmakers faced making sure everyone got to tell their side of what they thought of Bob Marley. To make sure the film was non- bias as possible. Also to share Jamaica culture, religion, and politics in a way that respects Jamaica and also so people who are not from Jamaica can understand the history, culture, religion, and politics that influenced Bob Marley as a person and a artist. The most cinematic tools that were affective I think is when they would shows pictures of Bob Marley and have the interviews or his music over it.
